James Tiptree Jr. -palkinto

James Tiptree Jr. -palkintoa jaetaan science fiction- ja fantasiakirjoille, jotka laajentavat ja kartoittavat käsitystä sukupuolesta. Palkinnon perustivat kirjailijat Pat Murphy ja Karen Joy Fowler vuonna 1991.

Palkinto on nimetty Alice B. Sheldonin mukaan. Sheldon (1915–1987) kirjoitti scifiä nimellä James Tiptree Jr. ja nautti arvostusta ja palkintoja. Vasta myöhemmin selvisi, että miehisen nimen takana olikin nainen. Nimi tiedettiin taiteilijanimeksi, mutta valtaosa lukijoista taisi olettaa, että Tiptree on mies, vaikka toisenlaisiakin arvioita Tiptreen teosten perusteella on myös esitetty.

Suomalaisittain palkinto on mielenkiintoinen, koska vuonna 2004 se myönnettiin Johanna Sinisalolle.
